AdFields: A new dimension for your advertisement.

While scanning through digg or other tech-news resources, I get sometimes the impression that a lot of people spend their free time (ok, I suppose it’s actually during their job) with map tools like Google Earth. These ‘Spotters’ scan every meter of the earth’s surface. There might always be something weird, which no one else has spotted before…
Two weeks ago I read about a marketing idea of the german company Vollzeit, which tries to benefit from its close location of the main airport of munich. They use different flower sorts with different colors to grow fieldwide company logos on so called “AdFields”. Only the passengers in the airplanes are able to see these ads, but due to the WM there seems to be a quite high demand.
Now, how about combining these two facts: Thousands of people, browsing through satelite images. And farmer who lease their fields to marketing companies, which target the google earth spotters as their clientel. Skip the passenger, bring your logos directly to the computer user. One problem would be the unregular updates of satelite images. Or that it is constrained to the summer months. But.. who cares. The whole idea is nonsense anyway. Actually, for me as a biker it might have one advantage: The world outside would get much more colorful with these flowers everywhere.
