The importance of Semantic Web Services

I just discovered an interesting article on the Geospatial Semantic Web Blog about Semantic Web Services and their importance to the movement of the Semantic Web. The author states, that the Semantic Web could exist without the notion of Semantic Web Services.

Looking at the evolving importance of Web Processing Services (OGC just released a discussion paper) I would just state, that the future looks like the combination of both and both are depending on each other. Semantic Web Services are very important for the provision of meaningful geo processes in the web. They are just establishing the link between web service and processes. I could think of a new level of the semantic web, where intelligent programs chain (semantic) web services together to provide geospatial analysis using meaning of data plus meaning of (web processing) services.

Such discussion are like, a computer can work without having internet. For sure that’s true, but would you like to have that? Would you actually use then a computer?
